Berlin Defense

Solid defense that often leads to endgames. Popularized by Kramnik.

3...Nf6 - The Berlin! Black immediately develops and attacks e4.

White's plans: Play d3 for a closed game, or O-O and d4 for sharp play.

Black's plans: Solid development, often leading to an early queen exchange after 4.O-O Nxe4.
